Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates
Not just anyone can obtain an EV SSL certificate. Before issuance, your Certificate Authority (CA) must first complete a thorough validation process to ensure that you’re actually a legitimate business. When you choose an EV certificate, you’re associating yourself with the best of the internet. Unlike DV certificates, which are commonly used by hackers, a Georgia Tech study found that websites protected with EV certificates are 99.99% likely to be free from phishing and abuse. Show your customers that you’re investing in the best possible protection by getting an EV SSL certificate today.

How do I get an EV SSL?
Business Registration – your company must be officially registered with your government.
Operational Existence – the Certificate Authority (CA) will look to verify that your organization has existed for more than 3 years. If your organization has not been in existence for more than 3 years, additional proof of operational status will be required, such as:
- Dun & Bradstreet listing
- Professional/Legal Option Letter (POL)
- Or a simple Bank confirmation letter
Address Authentication – the registered organization must have a verifiable physical address and business presence in their respective country/state.
Telephone Verification – the Certificate Authority (CA) must pull an active telephone number from an acceptable telephone directory in order to complete a verification call with the company (The most popular directories include YellowPages, Hoovers, Scoot.co.uk, Dun and Bradstreet, BBB.org – but other regional telephone directories or industry directories are also acceptable).

Isn't EV SSL cost-prohibitive?
No, it doesn’t have to be. We have EV SSL certificates starting under $100. And as we’ve discussed, these aren’t sunken costs, these are investments. Even if EV only nets you one or two extra customers, it’s paid for itself.
Isn't it difficult to get an EV certificate?
Is EV SSL worth it?
Absolutely. First impressions are everything, and independent research repeatedly proves that sites with EV certificates and a verified company name continually outperform their OV and DV competition.
